Death Note

The name describes it all, it’s the beginning of the end, a justice served from another perspective, and it’s a notebook from the other side, from another world.

This is a Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. It was published from 2003 till 2006. The story follows Light Yagami, a high school student that discovers a supernatural notebook that belongs to a Shinigami named Ryuk, which grants its user the ability to kill anyone whose name and face he knows. As it also comes with its own manual written on it how to be used. The series focuses around Light's attempt to clean the world from criminals even the ones in prison already. And the detective L who is looking for the one causing all these sudden deaths, and keeps his identity a secret and no one knows his real name.

The story is unbelievably and masterfully played out, it opens your mind on what’s right and what’s wrong and what are our boundaries at serving justice.
This is not just any manga series this is a classic that has been turned into an anime in 2006, that is full of mystery and crime, it’s on the top spot of every single list that is recommended and demanded. And it’s worth every second and hour you spend. The way the story unfolds and the characters develop is brilliant in every aspect and way possible. It will shock and thrill you, it will keep you plastered to your screen wanting to know more and more and not wanting it to end. It’s intriguing, every character has his own power and dynamic that adds to the story.
This manga series has been written into several novels that follows up the series called “Death Note Another Note: The Los Angeles BB case” which was published in 2006 and “Death Note: L: Change the World” in 2007. In addition to all this, there was an anime television film released in 2008 as well as a drama TV series in 2015. Last but not least, a film will be coming soon in 2016 captivating all the energy and power of the death note.
Once you read this manga or watch the anime version you can never unsee what you’ll see, it’s an experience of a lifetime that can’t be missed and has to be taken. It will expand your mind and show you how enemies think alike and cooperate. It’s a master piece.

Same story 3 different cultures.

You all know the story of the doctor, who pretends to be married and have kids just to score women, then gets caught up in his lies when he meets a girl he actually likes that wants to meet his wife and children. He then has to introduce them to each other by making his assistant to pretend to be his wife for a while and ends up actually falling for his assistant for keeping up with all his crap and for finally seeing her for the first time as a beautiful woman and not just his desk assistant in a coat.
It’s the same story recreated not once, not twice but three different times in three different countries with their own different culture.
Let’s begin with the Egyptian version since it’s the oldest produced in 1969, the movie was called “Nos sa3a Gawaz” which translates to “A Half an hour marriage” it stars Rushdi Abaza and Shadia, the due play the couple in the movie in the most classical way possible.
While in the Indian version, which was produced years afterwards in 2005, it starred Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif it was called “Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya” which means “Why did I love?” which shows how they’re focusing more on the romantic part of the story and how he keeps falling in love and of course as any other Hindi movie it’s filled with music and dancing, which adds to its flavor and gives it the Bollywood touch.

However, the latest version was in the United States in 2011, it’s called “Just go with it” starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, and choosing these two particular actors mean that they were focusing more on the comedy aspect even though the movie is very sweet and romantic, yet you’ll find yourself laughing more than aweing.
I really recommend the three movies even though they have the same plot, yet they’re different in every way possible and just watching purely out of fun of noticing the differences or just to laugh, they’re all perfect for that cause.

The Spectacular Now is not so spectacular.

First of all, how does this movie top ratings and romantic movie lists, I couldn’t feel anything while watching it, and I usually get moved easily.
It was on my “to watch list”, since before it was released, yet I took time to watch it and now I know why. Because, it’s not worth it. Sometimes you just have a previous hunch that you don’t know about, and then you find out and you’re like huh, I knew it.
This movie is just like that, the perfect actors, the perfect acting and everything is superb, but where is the story, where is the plot, where is the ending, I’m not satisfied, I’m not happy, I’m just like hello, what were you thinking when you made that movie James Ponsoldt, that’s the name of the director by the way. I bet that’s why he’s unknown, because his movies suck.
Sometimes the story needs to be as powerful as the tools you’re using, you have a great couple with an amazing chemistry and talent why not use that to your advantage?
This movie is just a waste of time from my perspective, I can’t watch it again. I really can’t put my hands on what went wrong, but since it’s supposedly adapted from a book of the same writer as “500 days of summer”, making me guess the mentality of the writer, however what I don’t get is why the movie is not good?
I wasn’t motivated, and at times I need to confess that I was bored. Maybe to others it’s a hit and a great story but to me it was a miss.
The only thing I got out of it is how dedicated the actors are, and the only thing that intrigued me was the scars on the lead actor Miles Teller. This caused me to go google him and find out how he got his scars, which made me end up reading articles about him and finding out he was in a car accident and almost died, which is a horrifying experience and to have the scares to always remind him what he almost went through is terrifying. Therefore, you should definitely check out his movies, because he’s really good and so is Shailene Woodley.

Mr. Right

Let’s talk for a second about Mr. Right, it is probably a myth to some, but to others it’s everything.
Every girl waits for her right man, for her one true love, her other half that completes her. However the thing is here, she stumbled upon him when she wasn’t looking, he fell for her, love at first sight, just like that, yup same old cheesy love story, I totally agree with what you’re thinking right now. But there is a twist you see. He’s a hitman, actually a retired hitman that doesn’t want to kill anymore, but he keeps killing everyone who tries to hire him. Therefore, leading to the girl he likes getting kidnapped and him trying to save her, and boom epic ending.
But wait, that’s the perfect romantic comedy, and add to that action packed! I was in awe, seriously as a movie junkie, I’ve seen a lot of bad movies and when I watch I usually have an idea of how it’s going to go and this one I tell you, exceeded my expectations meaning it doesn’t get the promotion it deserves on the internet or in the box office, cause I definitely did not hear about it from anywhere, but the internet upon searching pages for days.
Yet, you know what, that’s a movie I’d like to watch again, I’m happy, it’s a feel good movie, it gives you energy, and motivation and lots of love most of all which is everything you need to live happily back in reality. It puts you in a good mood.
In addition to everything above I’d like to say how Sam Rockwell never disappoints and he never gets enough credit for the work and effort he does in his movies, he’s extremely talented and charismatic and he need to be acknowledged, that’s one talented man, that is supper funny and cute when he acts, yet dead serious a combination like that is hard to find in actors these days. Oh yes and if you’re wondering who’s the girl with him it’s Anna Kendrick. Yes I get you it’s the weirdest couple, I didn’t think it could work, but they actually click and I don’t mind the age gap either, I actually think it adds to the whole story, which is super creative and let’s not forget Tim Roth! He’s like the ice cream topping to the movie.
The characters are all well played, and the effort done in the action is worth watching, my only comment is on the fashion, that it's extremely weird, yet appropriate to the characters. That's why I won’t say anything further about it, but that you should most definitely go watch that movie, if you want to have a good time and just smile and laugh for an hour and a half.

Beware of Crimson Peak!

This sentence have been ringing in my ear throughout the day. This is supposed to be a thriller movie that chills you to the bones. However, when I was watching it, the only chills I got was from the cold air in the room, I don’t deny the movie was good, but it had some flops.

Beginning with the plot, it seemed missing, there was something in the story that needed to be more powerful more deeply written instead of just a guy travelling to find a companion to steal her money, there should have been a reason why he chose her and a reason why he went to a specific place. Just as she had a reason to stay away from crimson peak, cause her mother kept warning her about that odd place, even though her mom has been dead for years and has been appearing to her as a ghost who frightens her each and every time yet warns her.

Moving on, the graphics for the movie was okay, too much flesh and blood on the ghosts though. However, my problem was with the colors. Back then no one used to wear bright colors, and the color red wasn’t used that much, even though I think it's such a daring move to do, since it foreshadows what the characters intentions are, yet the usage of that color in the movie is just overwhelming and I hate that color, which kept getting on my nerves while watching.
Last but not least, honestly I only watched the movie because of Tom Hiddleton. I like the guy, he’s a brilliant actor and he’s good with dark characters since the days of playing Thor’s evil brother “Loki”. I thought Mia Wasikow would be perfect for the role of “Edith Cushing” the young bride, however she was mostly unconscious and obnoxious throughout the movie and it was annoying to me and I couldn’t feel her frightened, but as if she’s pretending to be which made it hard to watch.

All in all I expected more of that movie and I didn’t get what I wanted out of it but Tom Hiddleton dying at the end and breaking my heart after turning righteous and being brave. That’s what they do at the end they kill the good people that are willing to sacrifice everything to save their loved ones, why do they always have to kill the antagonist once he become the hero ?
